The following security computer alerts have been issued by the Academic Computing Center.

Ignore forged alerts! All ACC alerts sent through email are also listed below, with links to additional information. Before taking an action recommended in an email, please confirm that the email is legitimate. Many emails requesting action are bogus.

New MS Office, Office 2007, introduces compatibility issues.

Campus email users have received today an alert with the subject line "Worm Detected!", from "Customer Support Center" at brain-networks.com. This email is a hoax, and the zip attachment most likely contains a type of virus.

April 4, 2007 Several critical security holes have been identified, some of which may allow a remote attacker to place and run malicious programs on your system. One of these vulnerabilities, which affects only Windows systems, is very serious and is actively being exploited.

Multiple Service Interruptions During the Week of Jan. 2nd. Various computing systems will undergo maintenance during the first week of January, 2007.

November 17, 2006 Attention FireFox 2.0 users: Those who have installed and use FireFox 2.0 on your Windows XP and Macintosh PC, may get an error message that "the site uses a security protocol with isn't enabled" when accessing Haverford directory photos, registering for classes, or using other tools on the Administrative Computing secure web server (www.admin.haverford.edu).
November 16, 2006 Windows users affected by multiple vulnerabilities and must apply several updates to Windows and VPN software.

August 28, 2006 Dell and Apple battery recall: If you bought a laptop computer from Dell or Apple Computer, your system may have a recalled battery.

February 3, 2006 Mywife mass mailing malware variant named Win32/Mywife.E@mm. The mass mailing malware tries to entice users through social engineering efforts into opening an attached file in an e-mail message.
