Request an Equipment Loan

 

 

The Faculty Resource Room, located in Stokes 204P, provides high-end computing equipment and help for those faculty with special projects. Faculty wishing to use the Resource Room may schedule an appointment (contact your liaison), or simply drop by Monday - Friday 9am-5pm.

Below is a list of equipment kept in the room, along with specialized software and peripherals that have been installed on that equipment. All computers are configured with the standard software: Microsoft Office, Netscape, Internet Explorer, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, etc.

Portable equipment is available for loans of up to one week.

Note about DVD drives: All computers in the Faculty Resource Room have some type of DVD drive. However, DVD drives come in a variety of flavors, which are not necessarily compatible with each other. If you are creating a DVD, or you are having trouble using one, the web page, What is DVDR, from DVDhelp.com may be helpful.

Dell Dimension 4500 Pentium IV

This Windows XP Professional computer is set up to easily scan documents and post electronic reserves. You can also use it to create CDs and DVDs in the following formats: CD-R (write once), CD-RW (rewritable), DVD+R (write once) DVD+RW (rewritable) format.

Specs: 1.8 Ghz, 512MB Ram, 40GB Hard drive, 250 MB Zip drive, DVD+RW (AT-153)

Peripherals: Hewlett-Packard ScanJet 5490cxi with sheet feeder and transparency adapter (zz-024)

Special Software: Adobe Capture (for quick creation of small PDFs from scanned documents)

PowerMacintosh G5

This tower Macintosh running OS X is configured to help you create sophisticated videos and web materials. Plug in a digital camera to import video. You can also use it to scan large images on the legal sized flatbed scanner, or convert printed pages to editable text using highly accurate OCR software.

Specs: Dual 2 Ghz, 1GB Ram, 250GB Hard drive, SuperDrive (CD-RW/DVD-R) (FL-581)

Peripherals: 19" flat panel monitor (MN-347); Hewlett-Packard Scanjet 8200 legal size flatbed scanner with 4800-dpi/48-bit color resolution (zz-027).

Special Software: Flash; Fireworks; Final Cut Pro HD; OmniPage Pro; Roxio Toast; Soundtrack.

iMac

This 17" pivot screen Macintosh running OS X is set up to scan slides and negative film. You can use it to create rewriteable CDs and write-once DVDs in the DVD-R format.

Specs: 800 Mhz, 768MB Ram, 6GB Hard drive, CD-RW/DVD-R (cp-10)

Peripherals: Nikon Super CoolScan 4000 for scanning 35mm film negatives and slides (zz-025)

Macintosh Powerbook G4

This laptop running OS X can be loaned out for up to a week for work on large projects such as research papers and videos on the go.

Specs: 1 Ghz, 1GB Ram, 60GB Hard drive, SuperDrive (CD-RW/DVD-R), 15" flat panel monitor ()

Special Software: Flash; Fireworks; Final Cut Express; Endnote

Canon Powershot G3 Digital Camera

This digital camera, along with a tripod, can be loaned out for up to week. It takes clear, high-resolution digital photos, and offers a telephoto, optical zoom lens.

Specs: 4.0 Mega Pixels, Direct print, Tele Converter TC-DC58N 1.75xfor Powershot G3, 14x zoom (optical & digital), Zoom lens 7.2.0-28.8mm 1:20-3.0, F2.0 (Fast optical lens) (ZZ-026)

USB Key Drive

This tiny portable drive can be loaned out for up to a week to help you transport files to an event.

Specs: USB, 256MB

External CD/DVD drive

This portable drive can be loaned out for up to a week to read and write CDs and DVDs from a Macintosh or Windows computer. It will read and write to the wide range of DVD formats.

Specs: USB2/Firewire, DVD-RW & DVD+RW, CD-RW (ED-124)

USB/Firewire External Hard Drive

This portable drive can be loaned out for up to a week for those who need temporary extra storage space with their Macintosh or Windows computer.

Specs: USB2/Firewire, 80GB (ED-123)
