Managing Email While AwayWebmail
|
Most likely, you will want to continue reading your Haverford email while away from campus. (If not, skip to the last section.) You have several options. You can forward mail to another account that you will use while away; you can use Webmail; you can set your computer up to continue using your Haverford account off-campus; finally, you can forget about email and set a message that you are not reading it.Option #1: Forward email to another accountIf you will be away at another university, they may provide an email account for you. If so, it is generally best to use this account. If this is not an option, there may still be local email providers that will work well for you. Check with others in your area to find the preferred providers in your location. If you use one of these services, read the online documentation for that service and follow any rules or advice given. NOTE: ACC only supports Haverford accounts. Thus, you must work with your new email service provider, should you need help with that account.
Option #2: Use WebmailACC has a web-based email service, Webmail. You can use
this anytime, here or abroad. There is no special setup needed. See the
Webmail documentation for more information.
Option #3: Configure Eudora to continue using your Haverford accountWhile away, you can usually (but not always) continue to
use Eudora with your existing Haverford email if you make some minor changes
to your email settings. These are explained on the web. Please note that
you will need access to a cooperative Internet Service Provider for this
option to work.
Option #4: Set an Away Message if You Won't Read Your EmailIn these email-centric times, there is an expectation that
you will read and answer your email within a couple days (or faster).
If you don't plan on reading email while away, it is polite to set a message
alerting others to this. Mail will accumulate in your inbox until you
are ready and able to access it. NOTE: You cannot have both a forward and an away message.
Thus, use of this option precludes use of option #1.
