Windows Vista at Haverford
|
Microsoft's new operating system, Vista, will be released Tuesday, January 30. This new operating system has an attractive new look and many improved features. However, because of the bugs and compatibility issues inherent in all new operating systems, Haverford is not prepared to support Vista at this time. During the spring and summer of 2007, the computing centers will thoroughly test our customized and supported software on the Vista operating system, to assure that Vista users can work safely and reliably in our campus computing environment. Haverford is committed to full support of Vista by Fall 2007. Academic and Administrative Computing will continue to order systems for faculty and staff with Windows XP until we begin full support of Vista. We recommend that students and others making personal purchases of new Windows-based computers this semester order their systems with the XP operating system. Microsoft will continue to make XP available for some time after the release of Vista. If you wish to take a look at Vista, you are welcome to stop by the Stokes 204 lobby, where we have it installed on a public system. Watch this page for updates regarding Vista support at Haverford. |
