Security Alert for Home Users

In addition to the Acceptable Use Policy that governs all use of the Haverford College network, the following policies pertain to users of the Haverford dial-in service.

  • The dial-in service is primarily intended to provide faculty, staff and students living off-campus access to library resources, internal web sites and local email for college-related work. The Academic Computing Center, which provides this service, does not have the resources to provide the fastest modem speeds or guarantee 100% reliability. There are many Internet Service Providers that can provide unlimited access to the Internet at faster speeds for a reasonable monthly charge. You may prefer to contract with one of these services.
  • If you do contract with an outside ISP rather than using Haverford's dial-in service, you can still access library resources and internal web sites using the College's Virtual Private Network (VPN). Contact your computer liaison or the Helpdesk for more information.

  • Please remember that your Haverford dial-in account is for your personal use only. Your children and other family members or friends may not have access to your account.

  • If we cannot troubleshoot a problem over the phone, we may ask you to bring your computer to our Helpdesk. You should be amenable to making recommended changes (e.g., upgrading your operating system, removing software that might be conflicting with dial-in, or replacing your modem or cables). As with any troubleshooting, back up all of your documents before bringing in your computer.
  • We cannot guarantee that your computer will work on our dial-in network, only that we will make a reasonable effort to help you. If your computer cannot be made to work with the dial-in service, we will offer you a full refund of the registration fee if you cancel your account within 60 days.

For Questions and Comments, contact Haverford College's Academic Computing Center.
