Microsoft Office products sometimes have critical security holes that put your computer at risk. Apply those Office updates needed for your system.

Windows Computer Users

The Office updates are NOT INSTALLED BY AUTOMATIC UPDATES. All Office for Windows users must use Internet Explorer to navigate to http://office.microsoft.com/officeupdate to check for and install updates for Office. If you have never installed any Office updates previously, you may have to install several additional updates before you can install the latest security updates for Office.

Be sure that you install all the Office updates, but particularly the Security Patch KB824934 and Security Patch KB830350.

Students and home users may be required to insert their Office CD to complete some of the updates. Contact the Helpdesk if you are missing your Office CD or need assistance with installing updates.

Macintosh Computer Users

Office updates should be obtained by navigating to http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.aspx and installing the updates appropriate to your version of Office.

OS X users should be using Microsoft Office v.X, but they may also have Office 2001 installed. Most OS 9 users are using Microsoft Office 2001. Older Macs may have Office 98 installed.

If it is unclear which downloads you need, install the most recent update first. It will tell you if you need any previous updates before it can be installed.
