Install and Configure Eudora 7.1 for Windows

Download Eudora and configure it with the settings noted below.

  1. Download Eudora from http://eudora.com/download/

  2. Run the installer, selecting the defaults.

  3. Open Eudora. You get a message asking you to configure Eudora using the wizard. Click Cancel.

  4. Now configure Eudora with the tools menu. From the Tools menu, select Options...

  5. You will set the configuration window illustrated below. Select the Getting Started category on the left, and enter the requested information

    Real Name:
    Name by which you wish to be known. (i.e. Jane User, Professor User, Janey U.)
    Email Address:
    Your email username@haverford.edu, with the @haverford.edu (i.e. juser@haverford.edu)
    Mail Server (Incoming):
    pop.haverford.edu
    User Name:
    Your email username, without the @haverford.edu (i.e. juser)
    SMTP Server (Outgoing):
    smtp.haverford.edu
  6. Configure Eudora to use our Secure Socket Layer (SSL). Select the Checking Mail category on the left. In the section Secure Sockets when Receiving select Required, alternate port.

  7. Set your Incoming Mail options to avoid problems with your account and leave mail on server for 5 days. Use the configurations illustrated and typed below, and click OK.
    1. Check leave mail on server
    2. Check option to leave mail on server for 5 days. (This lets you collect mail from other computers, or with SquirrelMail, yet cleans your mail server inbox.)
    3. Check option to delete from server when emptied from the trash.
      (This also helps to clean your mail server inbox. You will not see these messages when checking your account from other computers, or with SquirrelMail.)
    4. Uncheck option to skip messages over 40K.

  8. Set up directory services, to easily find other Haverford email addresses.
  9. Configure other settings as desired. This might include setting up folders or filters to help organize email.
