PREPARE YOUR DIGITAL PHOTOS FOR THE WEB OR PRINT

DATES: Tuesday, January 9
TIME: 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM
PLACE: Stokes 004
INSTRUCTORS: Jeff White

Digital images let you share photos via the Web, Blackboard, email, newsletters and other printed formats. In this workshop, you will learn some of the theory behind digital imagery, and apply that knowledge to help you prepare your photos to get the best results for the distribution format of your choice. By resizing, cropping, rotating, and making adjustment to color and exposure, you can significantly enhance the quality of your images.

Who should attend? If you use photos in web pages, presentations, documents, or other venues, and would like to enhance the quality of those images, consider taking this introductory workshop. While the class will be geared towards those new to digital photo editing, those looking for a refresher on the basics are also welcome.

WHAT'S NEW WITH Bb 7.1--INTRODUCTION TO BLACKBOARD'S UPGRADED DISCUSSION BOARD

DATES: Wednesday, January 10
TIME: 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM
PLACE: Stokes 004
INSTRUCTOR: Sharon Strauss

The Tri-College Blackboard system will be upgraded to version 7.1 on January 4. This upgrade will noticeably change the discussion board. The new discussion board will include the ability to grade discussion board entries, subscribe to forums to get new entries via email, and enable peer review of entries. The discussion board can be useful for those who include online discussions in their curricula, as well as those who want a way for students to post and review each other's work.

Who should attend? Those who currently use the Blackboard discussion board, as well as those considering it for future courses.

PLACE: Magill library, Philip Wing
INSTRUCTOR: James Gulick

This class will demonstrate ARTstor, an application with an impressive collection of digitized artwork. Either use ARTstor in the classroom or post ARTstor images for your students to view via Blackboard or another web site. You can also use this system to upload and catalog your own collections. If desired (and legal), you can then share all or part of your collection with the Tri-College community.

Who should attend? Faculty members and others who work with images in research and teaching are encouraged to see what ARTstor offers.

EDIT WEB PAGES QUICKLY AND EASILY WITH CONTRIBUTE 3

TIME: 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM
PLACE: Stokes 004
INSTRUCTOR: Jeff White

MANAGE CITATIONS WITH ENDNOTE X

DATES: Thursday, January 18
TIME: 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM
PLACE: Stokes 004
INSTRUCTOR: Sharon Strauss

Endnote helps you quickly find and organize reference materials, as well as cite those references in a Word document in the format required by your publishers. In addition, it will download citations from Tripod and other library resources. It's a great tool for anyone who needs to track and cite references from multiple sources for multiple topics.

Haverford does not site license Endnote, but a number of faculty members find it useful and purchase their own versions. If you are unsure if this program is right for you, attend the class and download a free 30 day trial version.

Who should attend? Faculty and research assistants interested in learning about this tool, as well as current Endnote users looking for a structured overview of the product. While some attention will go to new features of Endnote X, this is primarily a general introductory workshop.

INTRODUCTION TO PODCASTING WITH GARAGEBAND AND iWEB

DATES: Thursday, January 18
TIME: 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM
PLACE: LLC, Stokes 205
INSTRUCTOR: Hiroyo Saito

With Podcasting, you can easily make audio materials available to your students, so they can listen to course materials on their iPod or other MP3 player, as well as their Mac or Windows PC. Because students can access the materials anywhere and anytime they want, Podcasting can be a great learning tool for your students.

In this workshop, you will learn how to create and edit your own audio recording with Garageband and post your podcasts to the Web with iWeb. This course will use Garageband and iWeb, parts of the software suite iLife '06, available only on Macintosh computers.

Who should attend? This workshop is for faculty and others interested in creating podcasts, and who have some familiarity with Macintosh OS X. (Windows users interested in podcasts, please note this in the comments. If there is interest we can run a Windows-base podcast course in the future.)
