Fords Lance Knights, 7-6;
Einbinder Breaks Multiple Career Records in Final Game
HAVERFORD, PA - Senior outfielder Ben Einbinder
capped off a stellar four-year career, going 3-for-4 with a home
run, three RBI, two runs scored and two stolen bases to help lead
host Haverford past visiting Neumann, 7-6, in the Fords final baseball
game of the 2007 season. Einbinder tied the Centennial Conference
career home run record with a two-run bomb in the eighth inning,
the 35th of his career. Einbinder also broke Haverford career records
this afternoon for most doubles, and tied the record for most at-bats
at Haverford. Einbinder also eclipsed the record for most hits and
RBI in a season, this afternoon. The Fords finish their 2007 campaign
with a 22-13 overall record.
Neumann took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second, but Haverford
answered with two runs in the fourth, highlighted by a RBI double
off the bat of sophomore Jamie Hollowell, driving in freshman first
baseman Robbie Crabtree. The Knights came back with one run in the
top of the fifth, but a single off the bat of Einbinder plated sophomore
outfielder Dean Laganosky, who led off the inning with a single
and his program-best 31st stolen base of the season to knot the
game a three.
The Haverford offense came through with three runs in the seventh
on Einbinder's record-tying 35th home run of his career, along with
a RBI single by Crabtree, giving Haverford a 6-3 edge. Neumann was
able to get one run back in the eighth, however, the Fords quickly
got the run back when Einbinder worked a one out walk, stole two
bases and scored on an error. Neumann climbed to within 7-6 in the
ninth inning, but senior reliever Jon Burke struck out the final
two batters of the game to earn his third save of the season.
Einbinder closed the book on his career by tying the Centennial
home run record in a career (35). Einbinder's double in the first
inning gave him 42 in his career, surpassing the record of 41 set
by Matt Genna (1999-2002). Einbinder also tied Genna's record this
afternoon for at bats in a career at Haverford with 474.
Einbinder's three RBI today gives him 46 on the year, breaking the
previous Haverford record for RBI in a season of 43, set by Ryan
Stephens in 2005, and John Loughnane in 1987. Einbinder's three
hits today brought his season total to 52, topping the previous
program record of 51 set in 2006 by Tim McLean. Einbinder's 11 home
runs this season broke his previous record of nine set in 2006,
and his 102 total bases also bested McLean, who had the previous
record of 89 in 2006. Einbinder also finished the 2007 campaign
with a .441 batting average and a .864 slugging percentage, both
good for second best in a season all-time at Haverford.
Senior Ryan Stephens also broke a program record this afternoon
with his 14th double of the season, topping the previous record
of 13 set five previous times. Senior Ben Field capped off his career
as the all-time leader at Haverford with ten triples.
Senior relief pitcher John Castronova tied the program record with
six saves and 17 appearances this season, and ends his career as
the all-time program leader in appearances (58) and saves (10).
Senior pitcher Travis Zier completed his career with 19 wins, just
shy of the Haverford record of 20 wins in a career set by Nick Chanock
(2002-05).
