Season Outlook
The Haverford College men’s soccer team has plenty of reason for optimism in 2008. The Fords return all 11 starters and four key reserves from a season ago. With 15 players returning their will be plenty of experience and depth for HC this fall.
Midfield
Seniors Eric Kissinger, Jim Wiltsee and John Valantassis and junior Chris Dioguardi solidify the midfield. Kissinger and Dioguardi each netted three goals last season. Wiltsee scored two goals, including one game-winner, while Valantassis tallied three points (1G, 1A) in 14 games.
Forward
Dominique Debucquoy-Dodley was the Fords leading scoring last season with five goals as a freshman. Fellow sophomore Max Stossel compliments Debucquoy-Dodley on the front line. He scored four goals in 2007.
Seniors Josh Price and Taylor Sunby started at forward last season and are projected to fill those roles once again.
Defense
Senior Derek Lee and junior Brian Pep-Mooney return on defense. Lee started all 17 games last season and Pep-Mooney got the nod in 12 games. Sophomore Alex Mirachi saw valuable time at defender as a rookie playing in 14 games and starting nine.
Goalkeeper
Senior Adam Care returns after collecting 93 saves and one shutout in 14 games last season. For his career as a three-year starter Care has a 2.46 goals against average and 202 saves.
The Schedule
The men’s soccer schedule is highlighted by a visit from conference rival Johns Hopkins University, a 2007 NCAA tournament participant, and a trip to sunny California in mid-October where they will take on Occidental College and Cal Tech, each a member of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
